SAN MAURO CILENTO (SA) - The village

A piece of untouched Italy where mild climate and the tranquility of an ancient mountain village meet the life of a popular seaside resort.

San Mauro Cilento (560m) is an ancient village in the heart of the Cilento National Parc counting approximately 1.000 inhabitants.  It lies in a panoramic position on the hills above the magnificient sandy beaches of  Acciaroli at the foot of Monte Stella (1.131m).

The village offers very panoramic views of the surrounding mountains with their olive plantations and of the sandy beaches of  Acciaroli.

Within 10 minutes driving by car down the very panoramic road lies Acciaroli wiht its fine sandy beaches. When the view is clear the world famous island of Capri appears on the horizon.

San Mauro Cilento is divided in two ancient fractions, Casalsottano und Casalsoprano, the "lower" and the "higher village". The long history dates back to XI century. The fotograph shows the front of the antique  Palazzo Mazzarella in Casalsoprano.

Inside Palazzo Mazzarella is a very old wooden olive press dating back to XVIII century. The picture shows a side entrance with a green wooden door an the typical  arch made of stone on a panoramic terrace.

In the characteristic "piazza" and in the main "bar" you will meet very friendly people at every time. The restaurant  "Il Frantoio" proposes the genuine Cilento cuisine as well as pizza made in the stone oven all along with excellent local wines. In the same building a local co-operative produces finest certified biological olive oil.
